Canada v Aruba June 5th: Our Projected Lineup

With Canada's World Cup qualifier against Aruba coming up in a couple of hours, we put together our best guess at the starting lineup John Herdman will put out against the relative minnows from the Caribbean. With Suriname not scoring enough yesterday against Bermuda to match Canada's goal difference, there's no real impetus to run up the score tonight, which could mean a more rotated and experimental lineup ahead of Tuesday's real test than we might otherwise have seen. With that in mind, read on...

Tonight's lineup - our best guess

In goal: Herdman has confirmed either James Pantemis or Dayne St. Clair will start tonight. With an opportunity to cap-tie St. Clair, we figure he'll get the nod in this one.

At the back: Scott Kennedy's in line for a deserved first appearance for the national team, and the Calgarian could be partnered in the centre of defence by Frank Sturing from Dutch side Den Bosch, although Derek Cornelius may also be an option. With Sam Adekugbe in mid-season form with Vålerenga (and his club hoping he doesn't get hurt on national duty), Ashtone Morgan from the taxi squad could get a start at left back. On the right, Nashville's Alistair Johnston should start tonight, with Laryea going against Suriname.

Midfield: We're hoping to see St. Johnstone's David Wotherspoon get a rare start for the national team after his great season. Samuel Piette could use some game time and could be in for a start (although this one might not be exactly calling for a ball-winning mid), and we're hoping to see Stephen Eustáquio partner him in more of a box-to-box role.

Up front: Cyle Larin is our pick to lead the line tonight, and we're hoping to see newly out of contract birthday boy Junior Hoilett get the start on one of the wings. Liam Millar or Wolves' Theo Corbeanu are likely candidates for the other wing. We're leaning toward Corbeanu.

There you go - we're looking at pretty much a fully-rotated squad, with only Larin and Eustáquio likely to start against Suriname as well, but who knows what the hell Herdman's thinking! Let us know what you think of our lineup, and check back after the starting XI is announced to see how we did.
